Fort Worth, Texas - The Texas Motor Speedway received the season 11, opening event. A field of 25 cars showed up for the race, making the fans enthusiastic. That was the biggest field ever in the GTS Cup Series.
Sanjin Haler was the pole-man, Filipe Moura qualified second. Outstanding result for these new GTS Cup rookies! 3rd was Mark van Brakel, a very good result for this GTS Cup veteran that is now returning to action!
The race was dominated by Sanjin Haler, led 84 of the 117 laps! Filipe Moura followed him almost all the race. The race was filled with cautions, taking out some drivers, amongst them Caludio Augusto, Kris Vickers, Carlos Costa, Herique Diaz, Carlos Caldas, Randy Lawrence, John McGraw, Castro Pereira, Rob Mackay and Steve Pearce. GTS Cup champion Jim Turner also retired the race after a black flag.
Haler only lost the lead on lap 98, under caution when he made a missunderstanding with Filipe Moura coming to the pit road. Adding to that he had a disastrous pit stop. Miguel Gomes took the lead after this, and thing were looking good por the portuguese driver, but Gomes made an error on the last restart, with 3 to go, spinning is tires and lost control, sending his car to the infield. The portuguese driver was clearly upset. Moura inherited the lead and took the win! Filipe Caldas and Jerry Santi were the remaining podium finishers. Meanwhile Haler endep up in 6th after a fierce last lap battle with Fernando Bento. Haler almost got the the pass, but Bento closed the door securing the Top 5 finish. Haler wasn't happy in the end, after dominating almost the whole race!
