Filipe wins at Pocono

LONG POND, PA - The Pocono Raceway received the race #8 of the season 10. With Jim Turner leading the field, the battle for the second place is very hot, with Yosh Hughes and Paulo Rocha, changing positions after each race.

Jim Turner and Leif Nordgren, were the fastest drivers in the wednesday practice session, with no else able to be close to them. Leif dominated the practice race, with Jim having some engine problems.

Those two drivers dominated the qualify session, with Jim Turner, putting his #6 VW Passat in the most wanted place of the grid ahead of the # 18 Pontiac of Leif Nordgren and the #76 Chevy of Yosh Hughes.

Jim led the field for another great race, followed by Yosh Hughes and Filipe Caldas, while Leif seemed a little nervous and fell back some positions. The top three, satyed that way, very close, while Leif recovered to the 4th place, while Carlos Caldas and Paulo Rocha, that also recovered from a bad start, were battling for the 5th place.

The last cautions transformed the race in a fuel race, with the drivers gambling for the last 21 laps of the race. Different strategies made a big difference, in the final outcome of the race, with Jim and Yosh choosing to pit in the last stint, while others choosed to bet on an entire fuel run. The last option proved to be the best, with the WTR team being able to put three cars in the podium. Yosh and Jim have also some bad luck, when a last caution appeared with 2 laps to go, that prevented them to at least catch Paulo Rocha for the 3rd place.

Filipe Caldas was a lucky winner, when he saw that maybe he would not have sufficient fuel to end the race, but that last caution due to Carlos Caldas's engine died, made the race end in yellow with the #21 Pontiac in 1st. Leif Nordgren ended in second, taking also advantage of the choice he made in stay for an entire fuel run, like Paulo Rocha that ended in third. That was a great day for the WTR Pontiac team.

Jim and Yosh ended in 4th and 5th without any chances to improve after they left the pits.

Jim Turner still leads confortably the GTS series, while Paulo is now in second ahead of Yosh. The battle for the second place will continue in Mexico.

The WTR Pontiac team, is now the new leader in the team championship, passing the TLP Vw, that had some trouble to have its drivers in the races, in the last events.

Filipe Caldas is the leader of the Thunder Shield ahead of Yosh Hughes.
